What to expect during a treatment

A case history is taken at the beginning of the first treatment. This is very important because:

· It determines any specific areas or problems which may need particular attention

· It highlights any medication being taken and their side effects

· It brings up any contraindication (reason Reflexology shoudn't be performed)

· It gives the therapist an all round view of the client

Foot observation:

· To look for any deformities or infections

· To check if there are any obvious medical problems

· General information about you – texture and feel of feet, skin tone and hydration

If all is well, cream is applied and treatment commences. A treatment lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

Face Observation:

· To look for any moles, freckles or infections

· To check if there are any obvious medical problems

· General information about you – texture and feel of skin, tone and hydration

What to expect during or after a treatment

You may or may not have any type of reaction during or after a session. This is because everyone is different. Reflexology balances where ever it is needed, and due to each persons own needs, reactions will be differing.

You will not need to remove any clothing except your shoes and socks. A Reflexologist will often work only on your hands and feet.

For a facial reflexology session, please refrain from wearing any make up. If you have had Botox or facial fillers it is not recommended within 3 weeks of this procedure. If you have had facial surgery, please refrain from facial reflexology for at least 6 months afterwards.

During a treatment you may/may not:

· Have tenderness in some areas, usually relating to an imbalance

· Gradually become more relaxed and even fall asleep

· Begin to feel cool, as you relax your body temperature naturally falls

· Become pink cheeked as your circulation is boosted

· Feel tingly in the areas of the body being worked on

After a treatment you may/may not:

· Full of energy

· Relaxed and laid back

· Feeling of floating on air

· Have a dull or aching head

· Feel like they have more energy

· Need the toilet more frequently

· Feel a little nausea

· Think you have a cold starting, as the sinuses begin to clear out!

· Have certain medical problems appear to return or get worse

· Be a little emotional

These are what we call part of the healing process. The body has been energised to rid itself of the toxins and re-balance. This can be quite tiring but by drinking plenty of water will be an excellent way to help your body flush out the toxins and reduce the symptom process.

These symptoms should only last about 24-36 hours and usually after the first couple of sessions.

The symptoms may seem to be very negative however it is a good sign that the therapy is working.
