Essential Oils to Support Your Adrenal Glands

If you are in need of some adrenal support - are you over worked, tired, stressed out, reliant on stimulants like caffein or sugar to keep you going during the day - why not include essential oils in your daily routine? Find out more HERE...

When we are using essential oils in a therapeutic sense, aromatherapy is the holistic art of choosing, blending and applying these oils to heal an imbalance or disharmony in our body. Essential oils are extractions from aromatic plants, barks and resins that have been steam-distilled, or cold pressed that produce an oil with all the benefits of that plant but 50 to 70 more concentrated. Therefor every time we use essential oils, they MUST be diluted. The most common mistake people make is that because essential oils are a natural derivative from plants, that they are safe. The fact is that most skin reactions are caused not by the chemical compound but the concentration.

We can dilute these oils in such things like carrier oils - Apricot, Argan, Evening Primrose oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Rosehip and Sweet Almond Oil. We use oils because Essential Oils are not water soluble, that is if you mix with water the oils will still sit on top of the water and not mix in. When you are mixing your oils with their carrier, it is recommended that not more than 2% should be used for topical purposes.

Essential oil therapy can be applied to the skin topically, through the respiratory system (breathed in) or through the olfactory system (smell). Read more about this HERE.

What Essential Oils Should I use to Support My Adrenal Glands?

The top oils to use are:

LAVENDER: Lavendular augustifolia.

This “universal oil” is excellent for stress relief, restlessness, and nervousness. It can also help with anxiety, headaches & insomnia. Lavender tends to reduce excess sympathetic nervous activity and promote parasympathetic activity, bringing the nervous system to normal balance. It is also an antibacterial, anti-fungal and antimicrobial.

It is recommended to close your eyes and deeply inhale lavender essential oil straight from the bottle during stressful times and sleepless nights.

FRANKINCENSE: Boswellia sacra

This has been used by the most ancient cultures of the Mediterranean and Neat East for centuries. It is derived from a small tree or shrub after long incisions is made in the trunk over a three month period. The gum is then steam distilled to produce the finest essential oil.

It calms the breathing and calms the mind, and will assist with depression, anxiety, insomnia and difficulty concentrating.

Dilute this oil in a carrier oil and apply to the feet twice daily especially under the arches.

LEMON: Citrus x limonum

This essential oil comes from the fruit peel. It takes approximately 3,000 lemons to produce a kilo of essential oil. This essential oil does not have a long shelf life, so use it when you can! It is a fantastic Antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and is an uplifting antidepressant.

Lemon essential oil is refreshing and invigorating, and for the adrenals - it restores balance in the autonomic system!

MARJORAM: Origanum majorana

Marjoram has been used since ancient times in Egypt - in mummy garlands, Greece and in the Middle East. It was known for its warming properties and comforting the heart, and healing bruises and strained muscles.

The essential oils come from the flowering stems that are steam distilled.

For the adrenal glands, this oil will help with anxiety, insomnia, headache, stress and tension and depression. *Please don't use this if you are pregnant!

So these are my top tips for essential oils and I am sure there are many more that you can choose from - I just love these ones the most. You don't need to use them all at the same time, but you can mix two together. The Lemon and Marjoram are a perfect match! Don't forget to dilute them, but you should add these to your daily health regime.
